Neville Mahon's odyssey from urban developer to rural gardener and fisherman combines transformation, resilience, and the enduring power of the human spirit. Born into humble beginnings in the quaint town of Ranfurly, nestled amidst the rolling hills of Central Otago, Neville's childhood was marked by the warmth of community and the timeless rhythms of rural life. From an early age, he was initiated into the family trade, working alongside his parents at the local 4 Square superette—a bustling hub of activity where he imbibed the virtues of hard work, integrity, and a deep reverence for the land.

As Neville matured, so too did his ambitions, leading him to venture beyond the confines of his small-town upbringing in pursuit of new horizons and opportunities. Settling in Dunedin, he embarked on a journey that would see him traverse the corridors of commerce and industry, laying the groundwork for his eventual ascent in the world of property development. His tenure as a travelling salesperson and later as a key player in Dunedin's commercial real estate scene honed his skills in negotiation and deal-making, providing him with the tools he would need to navigate the complexities of the modern business world.

The move to Auckland marked a turning point in Neville's career, propelling him into the heart of New Zealand's bustling metropolis and thrusting him into the forefront of the country's construction and development boom. It was here that Neville's entrepreneurial acumen truly came to the fore, as he orchestrated a series of bold and ambitious projects that would reshape Auckland's urban landscape for generations to come, including the acquisition of prime real estate behind the Newmarket Train Station to the development of pioneering mixed-use complexes.

Yet, for all his professional success, Neville found himself yearning for something more—a deeper connection to the land and a simpler way of life. Retreating to a remote property along the North Island's pristine coastline, Neville embarked on a journey of self-discovery and renewal, immersing himself in the timeless rhythms of nature and the age-old traditions of gardening and fishing. Surrounded by fertile soil and the tranquil waters of the tidal river, Neville found solace and serenity in the simple pleasures of tending to his gardens and casting lines into the shimmering depths.

Today, Neville's days are spent in communion with the land, as he tends to his gardens with loving care and sets out on fishing expeditions with his many (8) children and grandchildren by his side. Together, they revel in the beauty of the natural world, savouring the bounties of the earth and the joys of shared experiences. For Neville, this newfound way of life represents not just a retreat from the pressures of modernity but a return to the timeless values of community, stewardship, and the enduring bonds of family.
